A long weekend trip out of Houston in Springtime combines it all: a visit to several small historic towns and county seats; a birding boat trip out into the backwaters of Aransas Natural Wildlife Refuge to see whooping cranes and more; a visit to one of Texas' most beautiful Spanish Missions and a night at the Presidio La Bahia; fields of wildflowers in full bloom; and, for a special treat on the way home, we witnessed the sky filled from horizon to horizon with migrating white pelicans. Not to mention a visit to Texas' largest Live Oak Tree and the beautiful Palmetto State Park (the westernmost habitat of the palmetto plant in the US).
